Himeji Koma

A Koma is a toy which was brought over from Tang (China) by way of Koryo (Korea).
The technique was developed in those areas where people were already making turnery.
Himeji-goma originally started in Ogura-sho of Omi and was then later introduced to Himeji.
There are several kinds of Koma such as kazarigoma (ornated tops) which are decorated by parents during the New Year's holidays while wishing that their children will learn to stand on their own two legs.
