Hinawa (Fuse)

It is said that it was around the year of Kanbun 8 (1671) that the production of Hinawa, a fuse made of hemp or straw twine, started in Nabari city.
Hinawa was originally used for Hinawa-ju, a matchlock.
Presently, Hinawa is mainly used for Okera-bi (sacred fire lit to keep away misfortune) by visitors to the Yasaka Shrine on the occasion of their New Year's sacred rite.
