The material of Nara Sarashi is a kind of hemp skin dried in the shade. The process begins by spinning the hemp by hand and then weaving cloth which is then bleached in the sun. The main products are bleached hemp cloth and tea napkins. The origin is not clear, but it is said to be from around the Kamakura period (1185-1333).
