Omi-Mawata (Floss)

Mawata is the floss made from the outer covering of silkworm cocoons.
The process begins by soaking the cocoons in a water basin.
Then the round-shaped cocoons are stretched out evenly into squares and are placed on a wooden frame.
The Tawada area in Omi town is known as the national center for mawata-making and their main products are beddings and Japanese paper.
